Running Hot

Since my last post over a week ago I've played 1558 hands of 50NL and I'm up a stupid $599.82 for a winrate of 38.50BB/100 hands. Talk about running hot. Needless to say I think I'm playing well, which I probably am, but the cards sure are helping a hell of a lot.

Nothing exciting in MTT news. I played in the Sunday Million on Stars this weekend but failed to cash. I dropped two thirds of my stack at the first level when I flopped the nut straight holding JTo in the BB. I'm happy with how I played the hand so that beat was pretty hard to take. I never recovered from it and my Sunday Million shot was pretty short lived. I went out on a coinflip with about 10BB when my AQ couldn't beat 22 sometime in the second hour.

Here are a few hands from this last week's sessions:

Turns out the poor guy rivered worse quads! Ouch! Even more ouch is the fact that AP's bad beat jackpot needs you to lose with 8888 or worse. So close!

This table was interesting because it had a couple of good players. JoelStar was sitting 200BB deep and MeRakeCow has 100BB. Both of these guys were giving action and the deep stacks made me want to play with them. I had tried to pump up pots in previous hands as had Joel but so far he had had the better of it.

MERAKECOW - Folds
PORKEYPIGG - Calls $0.50
JOELSTAR - Calls $0.50
JMTHOMAS4 - Calls $0.25
Hero - Raises $2 to $2.50 -- lots of limpers, let's pump up the pot
PORKEYPIGG - Folds
JOELSTAR - Calls $2
JMTHOMAS4 - Calls $2

Flop:
[ ]

I flop the nut oesd and the best anyone else can do on this flop, I think, is J9 for a 2-pair. The plan is to bet my draw all the way and even if I don't hit it, I'll be betting big enough to fold out any weak hands like Jx, 9x, etc.

JMTHOMAS4 - Checks
Hero - Bets $5.50 -- about 2/3 pot bet
JOELSTAR - Calls $5.50
JMTHOMAS4 - Folds

Turn:
[ ] [ ]

I miss the turn but I want to keep the pressure on Joel. I bet about 2/3 of the pot again which should fold out any weak pairs and if a strong pair calls they are likely committed to calling down on the river, so I'm making up for lost equity there. Another point is that since we are so deep it's unlikely for Joel to raise me here unless he has something really strong, which he doesn't most of the time given the flop action.

Hero - Bets $12.50
JOELSTAR - Calls $12.50

River:
[ ] [ ]

I make it on the river and I bet big figuring that Joel is committed to calling with a 2-pair hand like J8/J9 or even QJ/KJ.

Hero - Bets $29
JOELSTAR - Calls $29 -- ship it!

Showdown:
Hero - Shows [ ] (Straight, eight to queen)
JOELSTAR - Mucks
Hero Collects $98.50 from main pot

I looked at the instant replay and it turns out Joel had a measly 78o. What the hell was he thinking? I asked him in chat and he said he was intending to shove any river since he thought I was weak, but that my river bet was too big for him to pull the trigger. Interesting play, but the call in the end was just brutal. Deep stack play definitely makes for some interesting situations!

Schwing

Haven't posted in a while since I haven't had anything major to report. I've been busy with school and haven't played that much.

I did have a nasty little 15-hour session at the casino playing 2/5 limit. Ended that with a profit of $70 which is a bit disappointing. The best I ever built my stack to during that session was for about $160 profit. It's a swingy game though with about 5-6 people seeing every flop. It's always fun playing live though.

Nothing to report in MTT play. A few minor cashes and some sick beats have kept me from going deep in anything.

50NL has been has swingy as well. I'm currently up 3 buy-ins on the month over 5k hands for a stupid winrate of 3bb/100. Very disappointing, but my play is getting better and I should show a much stronger winrate by the end of the month.

I've also been playing some limit heads-up. The play is generally terrible and I'm up close to $150 over very few hands. I could just be getting lucky though. Need bigger sample!

Here are a couple hands from 50NL that I found interesting in tonight's session.

Hand 1: 50NL
Seat #5 is the dealer
Seat 5 - GMAN271407 ($89.46 in chips) -- aggro donk running at 62/20/2.5
Seat 6 - Hero ($124.65 in chips)
Seat 4 - ISUTENDER07 ($99.25 in chips) -- standard TAG
Hero - Posts small blind $0.25
JAVAHAVA - Posts big blind $0.50
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [ ]
HOLDEM_07 - Folds
MAXIPESAA - Folds
ISUTENDER07 - Raises $2 to $2
GMAN271407 - Calls $2
Hero - Raises $9 to $9.25 -- standard squeeze
JAVAHAVA - Folds
ISUTENDER07 - Folds
GMAN271407 - Calls $7.25 -- not surprised

Flop:
[ ]

Not thrilled about this flop but I have to bet.

Hero - Bets $16 -- $16 into $21 pot, maybe should have bet more here
GMAN271407 - Calls $16

Turn:
[ ] [ ]

I don't put him on a Q because I think he would raise that flop. If he has a 10 I'm paying him off. Also not putting him on KK/AA because he flatted pf.

Hero - Checks --
Since he has been very aggressive I will let him take the lead and decide from there
GMAN271407 - Bets $22.50 -- half pot bet, seems very weak
Hero - All-In(Raise) $99.40 to $99.40 -- if I call here I'm committed to calling just about any river, so I might as well shove
GMAN271407 - Folds -- aggro donk lets it go
Hero - returned ($76.90) : not called

Hero - Does not show
Hero Collects $95 from main pot

Hand 2: 50NL
Seat #6 is the dealer
Seat 6 - Hero ($169.15 in chips)
Seat 5 - GMAN271407 ($98.91 in chips)
JAVAHAVA - Posts small blind $0.25
HOLDEM_07 - Posts big blind $0.50
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [ ]
MAXIPESAA - Folds
ISUTENDER07 - Folds
GMAN271407 - Calls $0.50 -- same aggro donk as in last hand
Hero - Raises $2.50 to $2.50 -- standard raise here on the button
JAVAHAVA - Folds
HOLDEM_07 - Folds
GMAN271407 - Calls $2

Flop:
[ ]
GMAN271407 - Checks
Hero - Bets $4 -- bet $4 into $5.75, maybe a little weak
GMAN271407 - Raises $10 to $10 -- interesting, I haven't seem him checkraise many flops
Hero - Calls $6 -- not sure if this is good but this guy is a an aggro donk so I'm not gonna let this go just yet

Turn:
[ ] [ ]
GMAN271407 - Bets $33 -- he overbets the $25.75 flop
Hero - Calls $33 -- I think I made a mistake here by flatting. At the time I still thought I might be ahead (likely not), and I picked up the flush draw. However, pot odds of 2-to-1 are not nearly enough here I don't think. At this point he only has $53 back so even if I hit my flush, or a T or K for a two-pair I'm still only getting roughly 3.5-to-1 implied odds.

River:
[ ] [ ]
GMAN271407 - All-In $53.41
Hero - Folds
GMAN271407 - returned ($53.41) : not called

Showdown:
GMAN271407 - Does not show
GMAN271407 Collects $88.75 from main pot

He shoves and I fold with no help from the river. I think I need to stove this hand with some ranges after a good night's sleep to see if that turn call was even remotely close to being good. Any thoughts on this hand would also be appreciated. :)

Jackpot!

Coupled with the prize money, double finish jackpot, and best double finish jackpot, last night's shipment came in at a smokin' $1390! I almost doubled my bankroll overnight! I'm not sure how much I'll withdraw and how much I'll keep in the br just yet, but I'm thinking about buying myself a used drum kit to rock out on.

I went out of DD A on a doozy of a hand. I'm still replaying it in my head. Any comments appreciated! (Turns out the hh got lost or something...)

Villain was a decent player who mixed up his raises so it was difficult to put him on a hand.

Villain is on button with about 25BB
I have about 15BB
Dealt to me: 33
Folds around to button
Villain minraises
SB folds
I call
Flop: 4 5 7 rainbow
I shove 13BB into 4.5BB + antes
Villain calls with 88

No help to me and I'm gone. I shoved because Villain whiffs this board a lot of the time. With the minraise preflop I can't put him on that midpair too often, so I guess he played it well.

February Results and March Goals

Throughout February I really tried to get comfortable with a true TAG style of play and I think I did a good job of that. I feel right at home at 25NL and am able to beat just about anyone playing the game over at Absolute.

At the beginning of the month I was playing too aggressively and stacking off with weak holdings a bit too often. I adjusted throughout the month and I think I have a good idea of when I need to get my money in and when I should be slowing down. I still make some poor river calls where I pay people off so that's a major leak I want to plug throughout March.

Here are the numbers from the PT database off my desktop:

I'm not sure why PT is doing this, but all of the 25nl numbers should be 6-max. Another thing is that I did a lot of 6-8 tabling at the start of the month and my play was definitely not as good as when I slowed down to 4-tabling for the rest of the month.

Here are the numbers from my laptop:

Aside from the terrible run at 50NL here, I like these numbers a lot more. I played on my laptop for a week which I spent at home. All of this play was 4-tabling, and as a result I posted a much better winrate than on my desktop.

Lastly, here are my tournament results:

I went over my tourneys in past posts so I won't say anything else about them here.

In total, I made $783.74 profit from play during February, which I'm very happy with. In addition to that, I also cleared $215 in bonus from AP, and I'll be getting $277.05 in rakeback for the month.

All together, that puts me at a grand total of $1275.79 profit for the month of February! Yum!

----

Goals for this month are:
  • playing 10,000 hands of 25NL with a winrate of 8bb/100
  • playing 10,000 hands of 50NL with a winrate of 5bb/100
  • score a big cash in a MTT with a buy-in of at most $15
I think I'm playing a lot better at 50NL than February's results show (they're abysmal!) so I definitely want to have a solid result this month in that game. I likely won't get as much play in this month as in February because school is looking pretty busy, but I think I can still manage 20k hands and some MTTs.

That's it for now!
