Triple Shootout Takedown!

Took down the Stars $5+$0.50 Triple Shootout for a hefty score of $765. I'm pretty pumped about this as it is my first notable take-down of an MTT. I cruised through my first table where the play was pretty terrible. The second table was a bit tougher, especially when it got down to 3-handed play because we all had similar stacks. I managed to tough out a win there.

The final table, which will have a replay on Stars sometime soon, was a lot tighter and more aggressive. No surprise there as each player had to win two tables to get there. I stayed pretty quiet during the early levels, hardly playing any hands. Once the blinds got higher and it was down to 6-handed play I became more active. For the most part, players knocked eachother out and I just added to my stack without running into much trouble. My stack swung a bit during this stage when I took a couple beats and dealt one out to get back some chips.

Once it got down to heads-up play I think I had a 2-to-1 chiplead over the other guy but he lucked out a couple times so I couldn't put him away for a little while. However, the blinds really did the work here and eventually I was able to secure the win. Again, I'm really pumped about this win, even moreso than the double cash score I had earlier this month, since I actually beat the entire field!

Time to call my mom and tell her about this, only to have her tell me to quit playing poker for the hundredth time. ;)

Back On Track

Back in my groove at 50NL. I've played 4,426 hands since the weekend and I'm up just under 8 buy-ins for a 9bb/100 win rate which I'm very happy with.

Here are a bunch of hands that I saved throughout the sessions:

Hand 1: 50NL
Seat #5 is the dealer
Seat 5 - Hero ($119.48 in chips)
Seat 6 - BUD25 ($18.15 in chips)
Seat 1 - RANCIDONE ($93.50 in chips)
Seat 2 - MRDOCHOLIDAY ($29.86 in chips) -- 50/35 donkey, I've busted this guy once already and I sense that he's on tilt
Seat 4 - FLYINGYUGO ($14.90 in chips)
BUD25 - Posts small blind $0.25
RANCIDONE - Posts big blind $0.50
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [ ]
MRDOCHOLIDAY - Raises $1.50 to $1.50
FLYINGYUGO - Folds
Hero - Raises $4.50 to $4.50 -- isolating to get him heads-up
BUD25 - Folds
RANCIDONE - Folds
MRDOCHOLIDAY - Calls $3

Flop:
[ ]
MRDOCHOLIDAY - Checks
Hero - Bets $7.50 -- doesn't really hit much of his range (35% pfr!) so I cbet
MRDOCHOLIDAY - Calls $7.50

Turn:
[ ] [ ]
MRDOCHOLIDAY - All-In $17.86

With that shove I'm looking at calling $18 into $42 which gives me 2.33-to-1. So even if I put him on a big pair, which he doesn't always have, I'm just about getting the right odds to call. Stoving this with villain holding KK puts me at 32% to win the hand, but with his stats he's shoving a lot worse here.

This might be a bit of a loose call in retrospect, but I felt pretty comfortable making it given the way villain had been playing.

Hero - Calls $17.86

River:
[ ] [ ]

Showdown:
MRDOCHOLIDAY - Shows [ ] (Two Pair, fives and fours)
Hero - Shows [ ] (Straight, five to nine)
Hero Collects $56.97 from main pot

Supposing he had a big pair then he totally misplayed the hand. He should have opted for a big check-raise on the flop that would have forced me out of the hand. With his call on the flop, he doesn't have enough of a stack left to push me off my draws on the turn.

Hand 2: 50NL
Seat #2 is the dealer
Seat 2 - SABBATHZH ($208.25 in chips)
Seat 3 - STACKED99 ($123.15 in chips)
Seat 4 - Hero ($100 in chips)
Seat 5 - BIGWIL11 ($68.55 in chips)
STACKED99 - Posts small blind $0.25
Hero - Posts big blind $0.50
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [ ]
BIGWIL11 - Raises $1 to $1 -- Mmm...
SABBATHZH - Raises $5 to $5 -- Mmmmmmm...
STACKED99 - Folds
Hero - Calls $4.50 -- I flat here because the original raiser might call along or even raise again
BIGWIL11 - Raises $20.50 to $21.50 -- Mmmmmmmmmmm...
SABBATHZH - Calls $16.50
Hero - Raises $38 to $43 -- done disguising my hand, let's keep pumping the pot
BIGWIL11 - Calls $21.50
SABBATHZH - Calls $21.50

Flop:
[ ]

So there's a ~$129 pot going into the flop. I really only have one move...

Hero - All-In $57
BIGWIL11 - All-In $25.55
SABBATHZH - Calls $57

Turn:
[ ] [ ]

River:
[ ] [ ]

Showdown:
SABBATHZH - Shows [ ] (Full house, tens full of jacks)
Hero - Shows [ ] (Full house, tens full of aces)
BIGWIL11 - Shows [ ] (Full house, tens full of eights)
Hero Collects $62.44 from side pot-1
Hero Collects $203.86 from main pot

I just about threw up when I saw the turn, but the river made everything right again. :)

Hand 3: 50NL
Seat #1 is the dealer
Seat 1 - STING1973 ($29.42 in chips)
Seat 2 - Hero ($91.80 in chips)
Seat 3 - D___WES ($19.25 in chips)
Seat 4 - OMENRC51 ($54.10 in chips)
Seat 5 - SNEAKYSHARK ($52.89 in chips) -- 85/28 over 97 hands
Seat 6 - STACKED99 ($142.70 in chips)
Hero - Posts small blind $0.25
D___WES - Posts big blind $0.50
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [ ]
OMENRC51 - Folds
SNEAKYSHARK - Raises $2 to $2
STACKED99 - Folds
STING1973 - Folds
Hero - Raises $7.50 to $7.75 -- standard reraise against a guy with a wide pfr range
D___WES - Folds
SNEAKYSHARK - Calls $5.75

Flop:
[ ]
Hero - Bets $12 -- 3/4 pot bet
SNEAKYSHARK - Calls $12

Turn:
[ ] [ ]

At this point the pot is ~$40 and villain has $33 back so he's basically pot-committed. Keeping in mind that he's called a pf reraise and a big flop bet, I'm kinda worried but not about to lay my hand down. So I go into passive mode...

Hero - Checks
SNEAKYSHARK - All-In $33.14
Hero - Calls $33.14 -- getting better than 2-to-1 and against this villain that's good enough for TPTK

River:
[ ] [ ]

Showdown:
Hero - Shows [ ] (Two Pair, aces and queens)
SNEAKYSHARK - Shows [ ] (Two Pair, jacks and nines)
Hero Collects $102.78 from main pot

Hand 4: 50NL
Seat #6 is the dealer
Seat 6 - STACKED99 ($96.25 in chips)
Seat 1 - ARYBAKIN ($99 in chips)
Seat 2 - Hero ($155.94 in chips) -- deep
Seat 4 - STEELERS30 ($23.50 in chips)
Seat 5 - NOLUCKATALL8 ($206.26 in chips) -- very deep
ARYBAKIN - Posts small blind $0.25
Hero - Posts big blind $0.50
NOLUCKATALL8 - Posts dead $0.75 dead $0.25
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [ ]
STEELERS30 - Calls $0.50
NOLUCKATALL8 - Checks
STACKED99 - Folds
ARYBAKIN - Folds
Hero - Raises $2 to $2.50 -- should be $3 raise if not more
STEELERS30 - Calls $2
NOLUCKATALL8 - Calls $2

Flop:
[ ]

This is a weird flop to me because I do flop TPTK, but NoLuck is very deep and I've seen him playing loosely. As such, I don't want to build a huge pot with this flop, especially since I'm oop. I check to exercise some pot control.

Hero - Checks
STEELERS30 - Checks
NOLUCKATALL8 - Bets $4
Hero - Calls $4
STEELERS30 - Folds

Turn:
[ ] [ ]

The spade draw comes and while I suspect I'm still ahead now I definitely want to keep the pot small.

Hero - Checks
NOLUCKATALL8 - Bets $5
Hero - Calls $5

River:
[ ] [ ]
Hero - Bets $6 -- small value bet, more of a blocker than anything
NOLUCKATALL8 - Calls $6

Showdown:
Hero - Shows [ ] (One pair, aces)
NOLUCKATALL8 - Mucks
Hero Collects $35.60 from main pot

That last hand just shows an adjustment I make when playing a deep-stacked villain out of position. I don't want to stack off with TPTK on that flop or that turn so I c/c trying to get a cheap showdown.

I've been reading over my past posts and I've noticed that my comments on the hands I post might be coming across a bit more authoritatively than I would like them to. I'm by no means an expert or an authority. I'm just expressing my thoughts throughout a hand in the best way I can. :)
